Certain classes within Atas have access to magical spells. Where this is the case, a list of spells will be present on the relevant class page. A spell is used in exactly the same way as an attack is made, with a roll of the d100 needing 30+. The benefit of spells is that they receive an additional bonus to this roll, which is listed next to the spell description. For example:

Oppolo wishes to cast Bolt on Moodass. The spell has a bonus of +5, so she types: Roll d100+5 to cast Bolt

And furc puts out:
Oppolo rolls d100+5 and gets 34.

In this case, Oppolo has rolled a 34. Since this is greater than 30, she is successful, and her opponent must make a defense, exactly as if they had been attacked normally. Moodass types:
Roll d100 to defend himself
And furc puts out:
Moodass rolls d100 and gets 76.

In this case, Moodass’ score of 76 was higher than Oppolo’s score of 34, so he has avoided the spell, and it is now his turn. Had he scored lower he would have taken d20 or d40 damage, as detailed in the combat rules, however the +5 spell bonus of Bolt would also be added, so he would type:
Moodass rolls d20+5 damage
And furc puts out:
Moodass rolls d20+5 damage and gets 23.

Oppolo now reduces her current mana (MP) by the cost of the Bolt spell, which is 5. The spell’s mana cost will be listed beside its modifier.
